Capilano Gateway Association
2011 AGM Founders Report
May 12, 2011
The Capilano Gateway Association has patterned itself, to a large degree, on the operations and structure of the Lynn Valley Community Association.  With its 100 year history of community activism and engagement the LVCA is the paramount community association in the District of north Vancouver, and quite possibly perhaps the whole Lower Mainland.
The reasons for the founding of the CGA are well known to most of the Lions Gate community, but most particularly to the community known as South of Fullerton.
Issues of the authentic community voice, coupled with a desire on the part of residents to explore options for the future of their community led to widening awareness of the need for a more proactive and transparent community dialogue.
The goals of the CGA were framed early on by the recommendations of one long time resident, summed up in the “three Rs”:  Reasonable, Rational and Realistic.
It has been by maintaining these key points that we have been able to grow in numbers and develop our position on local issues that impact our lives.
There are many people in the community who have come forward and placed themselves and their beliefs and principles on the line in order to make it possible to be here tonight.
We offer sincere thanks to everyone who has been part of this creation and look forward to maintaining the honour of your support.

Capilano Gateway Association
2011 AGM Membership Report
May 12, 2011
The Capilano Gateway Association (CGA) has and is proposing to adopt a successful model for current and ongoing community collaboration.
As a first step, the CGA has sought out the expertise of the leaders of the Lynn Valley Community Association (LVCA) and begun to align with their operational model. With its 100 year history of community activism and engagement the LVCA is the paramount community association in the District of North Vancouver, and quite possibly perhaps the whole Lower Mainland.  See www.lvca.ca for more detail regarding this best practice community association model and their activities.
We adopted the form and method of the LVCA for our membership and application, which are available for viewing on the CGA blog site.
Up to tonight’s meeting we have the following numbers of dues-paying members:
-Regular, resident members   37          now         41

-Associate members                    1

-Corporate members                   1
It is worth noting that these numbers, while modest, still place the CGA in the position of being the 2nd largest dues-paying community association in the DNV.
It is expected that, over the coming year, there will be many more corporate members as our profile and ongoing efforts for collaboration within the community is enhanced.  It is our thinking that in the same spirit of cooperation and larger community prosperity and livability, that the all residents, as well as, commercial and corporate property owners of the area need to be encouraged to join us in dialogue and seeking viable solutions for issues that affect us all.
Revenue from membership to date is $89.00.  There will be a requirement for the executive to examine the dues basis on the association over the coming year, with regard to costs, fund raising and perceived benefits to members.
